……. In a Kitchen far far away! One squirt of Palmolive liquid erupts into a galaxy of wonder

Without us realising it, we have visual galaxies evolving in front of us every day. Anytime we mix household chemicals with water or other liquids, there is a reaction taking place forming all sorts of interesting patterns, shapes and colours.

I have created these Soap Bubble Planets using everyday dishwashing liquid mixed with water; then gently blowing air through a straw to form a bubble to a size that would fit in the palm of your hand. To enhance the refraction of colours, these bubbles needed to be lit up with a large bright studio light directly above.

Where do the colours come from you may ask?

When the dishwashing soap and water mix together, they react with each other and try to separate forming layers. As these layers move, the light refracts between the layers creating mesmerising patterns and psychedelic colours.
